Emergency First Aid at Work plus (Category B) from Medi Aid
EFAW+ (Cat B)
This can be run as an inhouse course covering all the elements or as an open EFAW with the additonal plus elements taken seperatley (for further information please contact us).
The Emergency First Aid at Work plus (Category B) course is designed to enable the coach or leader to deliver emergency first aid where no dedicated first aider is availble and expected response times are between 10 and 30 minutes.
At the end of the course the candidate will be able to manage a casualty who is injured, or suffers a serious illness, while waiting for more qualified medical help to arrive.
Course Syllabus: EFAW
- Understand the role of the first aider including reference to: the importance of preventing cross infection;
- Incident Management.
- use of available equipment.
- Management of the Unconscious Casualty.
- Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency .
- administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure);.
- administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- administer first aid to a casualty who is choking.
- administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
- administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
- provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters).
- safe use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Plus Elements
- administer first aid to a casulaty with injries to bones, muscles and joints
- administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation on young people and casualtis suffering from drowning.
This course is normally delivered over one day.
Dress for the course should be casual.
This Course meets HSE and UK Athletic Requirements. A certificate is issued which is valid for 3 years from the date of issue.
Outdoor First Aid (Category C) from Medi Aid (in house course)
Outdoor First Aid (Cat C)
The Outdoor First Aid (Category C) course is designed to enable the coach or leader to deliver emergency first aid in remote and hard to access areas, where athletic activity takes place and where help may take a long time to arrive (e.g. fell and country trails)
At the end of the course the candidate will be able to manage a casualty who is injured, or suffers a serious illness, while waiting for more qualified medical help to arrive.
Course Syllabus:

- Recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate First Aid (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes)
- administer first aid to a casualty who spinal injuries
- administer first aid to a casualty who has cold or heat injuries
- administer first aid to a casualty who has suffered an electric shock (particulalry from lightning)
- administer first aid to a casualty who has received a bite or sting (including sheep ticks)
- first aid procedures when working in remote regions (including call for help and methods of evacuation)
- specifics and limitations of administering first aid in an outdoor environment
This course is normally delivered over 2 days.
